Fourteen clubs, a rangefinder, two gloves, a sleeve of balls somebody's been saving for a special occasion since 2021, and a banana. I carry all of it. I have never once been thanked.
What I have been is blamed. For the wrong club. For the yardage. For the wind. I want to be clear that I hold things — I do not select them, and I have no opinion about the pin.
The scoring I do care about, because that's where trips go wrong. Not the golf. The bit afterwards, at the bar, when four people who've had a drink try to settle a Nassau from memory and nobody can agree what happened on the twelfth.
